Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing the representation of women in pop cultural. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores female representations in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture, she works to highlight issues related to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet world. A graduate in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements since a early stage of her life. In 2009, when she was in university, she created the Feminist Frequency website. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games was targeted by an online campaign. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it made her more determined as a feminist critic of media. She has won numerous awards to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
